Good
Friday
Yet another bright sunny
day. This is our 10th day in England and the weather has
been great – most days just clear blue skies and warm, a marked contrast to our
previous trip when it snowed on the third day!
After breakfast of hot cross buns Adam drove us and Safiya to Bosham, a small coastal village about 3
miles west of Chichester on an inlet of Chichester Harbour. Bosham, as Jane describes it, is
quintessentially English with narrow cottage lined streets on the fringes of
the harbour. One street is on the water’s edge - at least it is at high tide as low water exposes extensive mud flats. Houses are raised well above high water
level and signs on a road on the edge of the harbour warn that the road
floods on each tide.

Bosham Harbour at Low Tide |
Our first stop was Bosham Walk, an art and craft centre containing lots of small shops selling all sorts of arty and crafty stuff.

We ate lunch on the deck of the Anchor Bleu pub which is on the water’s edge at high tide. Some tides are obviously very high as there was a watertight door between the deck and bar. Jane ate a Ploughman’s while I had cottage pie and salad. While eating we could see the tide encroaching and people were moving their cars from the road alongside the pub.

Walking back through the village it was apparent that the main street parallel to the harbour must also flood at times as all the gateways set in garden walls had solid barriers about 300mm high. When we reached the harbour again we spotted a car whose owner obviously didn’t know the area and hadn’t read the signs advising the road floods.

Back at Adam’s house we
ate dinner of baked potatoes, tuna and mayonnaise. This was followed by a TV
evening – Star Wars IV for Safiya followed by Have I got News For You, The
Italian Trip and QI for the grown ups.
