Day 84: Tuesday 10 June – On The Beach At San Vito Lo Campo, by Ken

We had been planning to move on today, but the camping ground was very good and we had enjoyed the previous two days lazing on beaches so much that we decided to stay another day.

Checking my email In the free wi-fi area next to the bar, there was the welcome news from Adam that he had reserved a replacement satnav that he would collect Wednesday evening and drop off with DHL on Thursday. I made some progress publishing more blog over the course of an hour, but there is a lot more to load before I’m up to date. Still, most days are written up and the photographs have been selected, it just needs time and good wi-fi to catch up.

At 10:00 we set off on for the beach, it was already hot and we were looking forward to the shade of an umbrollini and the cooling sea breeze. We chose the same area of beach as Sunday. The beach was a lot less busy, but being an hour later, the water’s edge places were taken and we had to settle for one row back. Not a great problem!

The day was spent lounging on our lettini and reading with an occasional dip in the sea to cool off. I Finished ‘Dead Simple’ by Peter James, the first in a series of Roy Grace detective novels and downloaded his second to my Kindle. Before starting that though Jane recommended I read ‘The Vegas Knockout’ by Tom Shreck which she had really enjoyed. The book was poorly written, but I had to agree with her the description, habits and antics of the main character’s Bassett hound reminded us very much of Ella’s family’s Gavin.

The beach sellers were as busy as ever plying their wares. Everything needed for the beach, as well as some unnecessary stuff was on offer. Coconut and pineapple to eat, sunglasses, jewellery, clothes, blankets, beach toys, portable radios, kites, and more. There were even Asian women offering massages. I had to wonder what sort of a living the sellers could possibly make. On Sunday I saw a woman buying clothes, today a man was having a massage and a few people bought a small piece of coconut at €1 a pop, but that was it.

We plodded back to Mabel at 16:30 where I sorted photos for the blog and Jane did some more planning for the Greek leg of the trip.
Dinner was a very tasty pasta dish with a fresh tomato, anchovy and olive sauce that Jane cooked.
