Day 57: Wednesday 14 May - Coventry and Knowle, by Ken

Before leaving Charlbury I attempted to remedy the faulty level indicator light on the toilet by emptying and flushing the cassette. It made no difference, the red ‘full’ light remained on. Definitely something for Elite to attend to.
Mabel and Smarty At Charlbury

It took well over an hour to get Mabel ready for the road which is considerably longer than with Myrtle. Jane felt we needed to share the tasks better to speed up the process. Apart from that we were very happy with all aspects of Mabel - the way she drove, the accommodation when parked, her storage arrangements, etc. We just needed to get the toilet indicator fixed and speed up getting her on the road – something we were sure would come with time.

We are trying to get a 50/50 split of the driving on this trip and it was Jane’s turn to drive again today.  We programmed a route back to Knowle via Coventry where we wanted to visit Go Outdoors to buy a lounger – we bought one in France on our last trip after Jane’s back started playing up. However, it was of the non-folding type, took up a lot of space in the garage and has been given to Phil and Kerry.

Satnav let us down by taking us into the centre of Coventry where we found ourselves on its very tight ring road with numerous interchanges. Jane did a very good job of getting us out of the city to Canley and Go Outdoors. There we got a replacement lounger and stocked up with toilet paper – Mabel’s cassette requires special soluble paper. We tried to buy enough for the trip, but just how many sheets do you need for 6 to 7 months?

Back on Phil and Kerry’s drive we ate our usual lunch and then went shopping to get a present for Phil’s 40th birthday tomorrow and groceries.

Back at Mabel Jane cooked an evening meal for the six of us – a chicken, corn and potato back which we ate indoors with Phil, Kerry and the girls. The evening was spent chatting and drinking.
