Saturday 10 May
When we woke we both
commented at how comfortable Mabel’s bed was. After sleeping in no fewer than
26 beds (including two on aircraft) since leaving home we were very happy at
the prospect of sleeping in Mabel for the rest of our trip.
Most of the day was taken
up by stowing all the gear that we stored in Phil and Kerry’s loft in Mabel. By
the end of the day everything was on board but the storage arrangements needed
some refining. Early in the piece I decided the storage bins fitted in Mabel’s
garage by Elite weren’t in the right place and I shifted them off centre
temporarily fixing them in place towards the left hand side so as to improve
access to the garage from the right.
Lunch was taken in Mabel
– ½ a sandwich Jane purchased yesterday plus bread with taramasolata and
Laughing Cow cheese.
Amelia and Martha came to visit.

For Dinner Phil prepared
his famous bacon and stilton burgers after which we spent the evening watching
a DVD of the Producers musical that Phil had a number of roles in. It was great
to have the opportunity of watching it a second time around and have asked
Kerry if she can make a copy for us.
Sunday 11 May
The day started with us
watching Breakfast TV in Mabel - headline news was that the Eurovision Song
Contest had been won by an Austrian bearded drag queen.
After breakfast Jane and
I did some shopping to enable us to finish kitting out Mabel as well as clean
her and Smarty. We also bought the ingredients required for Phil to cook roast
lamb and all the trimmings for our Sunday dinner. On the way back to Phil and
Kerry’s we dropped in to John and Ruth’s house, John was in Miami at a
conference, but Ruth, Olivia and Twiggy were home. Twiggy was so pleased to see
me she peed over the hall floor. Ruth had an envelope from DVLC for me which I
opened when we got back to Mabel. It was a V5C (Registration Certificate) which
contained all the information pertinent to Mabel, but the registration number
was BX14 WXE, not XB14 AXT as David had advised on Friday!
I penned an email to
David explaining what I had received suggesting there must be some mistake as
vehicles for export don’t have a V5C, they have different paperwork.
After lunch of bread,
cheese, taramasolata and Laughing Cow cheese we rearranged the gear stowed in
Mabel. I decided the garage storage arrangements were fine the way they had
been installed by Elite and spent half an hour shifting the racking back to
where it had come from. By the end of the day we were happy that everything was
just about in the right place.
Phil’s roast lamb was
delicious, as always.
